The primary mission of the General Investigations Section is to investigate complex criminal cases that take place in the City of Newport News. The individual units investigate specific types of crimes, as suggested by the unit titles.
This unit is comprised of five sub-units: Court Unit, Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Economic Crimes Unit, Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Pawn Shop Unit.
The Economic Crimes sergeant supervises the Newport News Financial Crimes Task Force and the Pawn Shop Unit. Each of the remaining units are supervised by a sergeant, and all report directly to the General Investigations Section Commander.
