Newport News Crime Line – Week of December 10th, 2018


I’m MPO Brandon Maynard .  The Newport News Police Department needs your help to solve a past homicide.  (Crime Line previously run 03/23/2018)

On March 16th, 2018 at 10:10 PM, Newport News Communications received a call of a possible burglary in the 5000 block of Chestnut Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject, who was later identified as 18 year-old James Claggion, IV of the 5000 block of Chestnut Avenue, inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.  Mr. Claggion was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics. 

It was reported that a female arrived at the residence and located the victim. Police were immediately contacted and the call was dispatched as a possible burglary. Officers checked the residence when they arrived and didn’t locate anyone else inside. There is no suspect information at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
