Announcing 2020 NlightN Holiday Event Series
Newport News Lights Up the City for the Season

During December, residents and guests are invited to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season throughout Newport News. The NlightN Holiday Event Series includes new holiday décor and lights, along with familiar holiday happenings, to bring the spirit of the holidays to every neighborhood. This year we are inviting Newport News residents and businesses to join us in lighting up the city to help us all have a safe and festive holiday season.

Celebration in Lights, Virginia’s first drive-through holiday light event, opens for its 28th season on Thanksgiving night (Nov. 26). Newport News Park will be transformed by over a million individual lights, creating animated holiday and fanciful scenes, with a variety of new upgrades! The event will be open each evening from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., through New Year’s Day (Jan. 1). This year, admission on weeknights (Monday – Thursday) will be $12.00 per car, a savings of $3.00 off the weekend night (Friday – Sunday) rate of $15.00 per car. Additionally, advance tickets (good any night) can be purchased for $10.00 at the Newport News Visitor Center at the entrance to Newport News Park.

Step into a winter wonderland at City Center for NlightN: Gifts of the Season with festive decorations and dazzling lights, Dec. 5 – Jan. 1. Every half hour between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., enjoy a show with lights and falling "snow" set to holiday music. Be sure to take photos at the "Instagramable Moments" sites around the fountain. NlightN: Merry Everything! at Brooks Crossing Dec. 5 – Jan. 1 will shine with nightly holiday light and sound shows from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and "Instagramable Moments" for that perfect holiday photo.

The Gift of Giving at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center (Dec. 8 - 12) will give out treats and make-and-take crafts to provide kids with their first gift of the holiday season. There will also be a photo-op for families to make a memory. Registration is required (http://downinggross.org/events/gift-of-giving).

The Denbigh Community Center is being transformed into a gingerbread house themed Winter Gingerland (free to view during normal center operating hours). Deck the Hall brings the holiday cheer to Newport News City Hall with a new holiday tree, special décor, and enhanced exterior lights illuminating the building.

New this year, we are inviting Newport News homeowners, businesses, and places of worship to join us in lighting up the city by signing up to be a stop on our citywide NlightN: Holiday Tour. Residents, businesses, churches/places of worship and other organizations are invited to become part of the tour, which will take drivers from one end of the city to the other to enjoy light displays. Decorations can be tacky, majestic, elaborate, colorful and more – we want to see them all! To get involved, interested participants can visit the NlightN Holiday Tour website and enter the address of the location that will be decorated. There is no cost to participate and all are invited to be part of the tour. The city also created an NlightN Holiday Tour map to make it easy for people to find brightly-lit areas in Newport News.  Every participating location will be featured on the website, which is mobile optimized and user friendly.  In addition to being featured on the NlightN Holiday Tour website, participants can pick up a sign announcing they are part of the tour.  Everyone who registers will receive an email in late November regarding pick up locations.
